Have you got a word for the new year? Have you asked God to give you a word?
That’s right. Just a word.
Most of the time there’s more behind just the one word — things the Lord expounds to you. Or it may be a word that will unfold as the year goes by with the understanding of it becoming revealed little by little.
The word could be something like “courage,” or “increase.” It may be “hope,” or “fulfillment.” One year the Lord gave me the word “challenge.” And it was a challenging year. But I actually felt somewhat prepared for it since He’d given me the word in January.
One word can capture a multitude of meanings in the spirit. Strength. Change. Light. All of these words can mean numerous things. But the simplicity of the one word is beautiful in the sense that it can stay in your mind continually. It’s like an anchor that holds you down in a storm. It’s a foundation or focal point you stand on throughout the year.
So ask God to give you a word. Why not? Seek Him for a few days, maybe a week or two. No rush. Give Him time to speak to you — and take the time to listen. What is He saying to you about this coming year?
