God is the Great Creator. Throughout Genesis chapter 1 we see all that He created — the sun, the moon, the land, the sea, the birds, the fish, and all of it was very good to Him. He delighted to create the world and everything within it. And He delighted to create you in His own image.
Since we are created in God’s image we have His DNA in us. We are His sons and daughters. This being fact, we, too, are creators just like Him. The ability and the desire to create is within us. Our minds are full of original thoughts and ideas, creative ones. These are gifts from God.
Designed to Create
So are you using the “creative-ness” God put in you? You may think, “Oh no, that’s for the artisans who paint or ‘see’ interior design.” But all of us can and do create, just in different ways.
- You can landscape your yard.
- You can cook a meal with unique flavors.
- You can play or write music.
- You can paint or draw.
- You can parent your children in a way that causes them to blossom. (This takes a lot of creativity!)
The ability to sew, read, write, make up games, plan anything — all of this and more takes creativity. The Creator Himself enables us to come up with all kinds of things.
Being Creative
When we step into a creative mode we engage in accessing God’s creative ability in us. And as we tap into this, I believe we become more sensitive to His Spirit. As a musician I find this happening often when I play. There are notes and chords that are given in a song but there is another level where I can go beyond those “givens” and get creative. In order to “feel” the music — how loud or soft, the timing, the rhythms, improvised solos, etc, it all comes from sensing a flow. Where does this flow come from? My spirit tapping into His Spirit.
Stay Creative
So on a personal level I’d like to challenge you this week. Create. Think of some ways you could do something creative — cook a new meal, build something, redecorate, take up painting (some of you have always wanted to), take a walk in a park and observe nature (without headphones on), visit a museum. All of this is stimulating creativity in our minds and as we stay creative, we stay more alive to sensing what God wants to create through us.
Take delight in creating. It fulfills something deep inside of us we received from our own Creator.
