John 3:16 – For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son.
God gave, we received.
John 3:27 – A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.
God gave, we received.
Want to know a simple formula for life? Receive His love and give it away.
Unfortunately love is a bit of a lost commodity in society today. At times we trade it around without much thought.
I was talking to my son on the phone this past week as he’s finishing up his finals this semester in university, and before hanging up I always say, “Love you, sweetheart” and he usually replies, “Love you too, Momma.” We’ve spoken this way for years over the phone, however, I don’t want this to lose it’s meaning. I really do love him and want him to know that.
He’s not some new shoes I bought that I “just love!” Nor is he the dinner out last night that I “just loved!” either. Love isn’t a physical act, nor a feeling – it’s more than that. Love is the most treasured, valuable commodity in the entire universe. And that’s why God gave it to us. He loved us that much.
God, Himself, is love. And He gave us His Son, Jesus, to help mankind try to understand and grasp – at least as best we can in our broken humanity – this great Love. So now in turn, out of our great love for Him, we give love to others. The transaction continues.
But it doesn’t stop there. This is not a one-way transaction.
Matt. 10:8 – Freely ye have received, freely give.
After we receive, we give.
And this transaction will forever continue as we learn to receive His love and give it away to every person we meet. It’s so simple: God gave, we received.
As God so loved the world that He gave, let us so love the world that we give too.
