Yesterday I woke up and hadn’t slept very well that night. I felt groggy and in a bad mood, which, unfortunately, began to set the tone for my whole day.
But it didn’t have to.
The Lord reminded me that gratitude can change everything. I just needed to focus on the positive little things that happen throughout the day instead of the negative ones.
So I took the dog for a walk and saw the beautiful orange clouds behind the trees as the sun was rising. I took note. It was a little thing, but I thanked God for it.
Later on I was driving across town expecting the usual traffic. Surprisingly there wasn’t hardly any. It was a little thing, but I thanked God for that too.
Then I took my mother for her big monthly grocery shopping day. It takes us about an hour and a half to get through Walmart. She’s 87 and hangs in there pretty well shuffling her cart around the whole time, but when we check out, it seems like we always get in the slowest line. However yesterday, it moved a bit faster than it normally does. It was a little thing, but again, I thanked God for it.
And last night, when I left the church after a wonderful time of fellowship and sharing with the ladies at Bible study, I was so grateful to have these sweet women of God in my life. This, too, was a little thing, but I truly thanked God for it.
Afterwards as I was heading home I realized it had been a good day. The bad mood I’d started with in the morning had left me a long time ago. I felt Father God smiling and saying: “See? Gratitude for the little things can add up to something big, can’t it?” “Yep.” I warmly replied.
It’s all about the little things.
